Entryway Essentials
I think it's fair to say that everyone knows the value of a good sized entryway, whether you're fortunate to have one or not. The house we live in is a split level, so we basically have a platform when you walk in the front door. I’ve seen smaller entryways than ours so I am thankful for the space that we do have! However, if we had more room, I would consider doing something along these lines. Practical & pretty.
If your entryway is teeny tiny, or on the spacious side, these are some essentials that you can incorporate to help make the space function to the best of its ability.
1. A mirror --> Always a good item to have in your entry. One last glance before you head out. Plus it can also help with making the space feel larger than it is.
2. Decorative accessories --> You don't need many, especially if you have a small space. Just a cute little something to help brighten up the space. A little potted plant would add a nice living element.
3. A good rug or mat --> Helps to maintain mess from rain, snow, dirt etc.
4. A table or surface --> It doesn't have to be anything huge. It could even be a shelf (especially if you have a small space). Just something to set things like mail, keys, and sunglasses on.
5. A pretty bowl or tray --> Anything to corral small things you don't want to loose & keep it from getting too clutter-y. Something to put on said surface in #4.
6. A clock --> Running late? Going to be early? It's good to know either way.
7. Baskets --> These are always a good thing in my book! A nice large basket on the floor of an entryway not only adds texture to your space but it adds some storage. These are great to have to hold scarves, mitts, hats, slippers and whatever else you can think of and want to hide!
8. Art --> Something for the walls is a must (a sign, a photo, or a print of sorts).
9. Hooks --> These are a great addition especially if you have very little closet space (a coat rack would also work great). It makes it easy for guests to quickly hang their things when they stop by for a visit. Also helps keep things tidy & off the floor.
10. Seating --> If you have the space seating is a nice touch. A small bench, stool, or chair is all you need. Just something that you or your guests can sit down on to tie shoes or pull on boots. I like the idea of a small bench that can also function as storage.
11. Lighting --> This is obvious. A good overhead light is essential so both you and your guests can see. And if you have the space, a lamp on an entry table would help with the cozy/welcoming factor too!
You may not have the space to incorporate all of these things, but these are just some things to consider to help make your entryway function well (& add some pretty too!).
