Ikea Spice Rack Hack

Ever since we got bunk beds last summer, for our two oldest kids, I knew I wanted to add some sort of mini shelf by their bedside. Between books, flashlights/night lights and their nightly water bottle they were needing a small surface area to house some of these treasures.

I’d seen the idea of using ikea spice racks as floating bookshelves around pinterest and knew that they would work perfectly for this purpose! They’re just the right depth and width, plus they’re super budget friendly.

I put the shelf at the head of the bead for the top bunk and for the bottom bunk I put it at the foot of the bed. There was no way my daughter could hit her head on the shelf up top but, for the bottom bunk I opted to put it at the foot of the bed since my son could have easily hit his head on it. Not to mention, I like the look of how they balance each other out.

They fit just the right amount of books and there’s enough space for their water bottle and any other little treasures. I think they’re the perfect addition to this space!
