Orange Slice Garland

The last few years I’ve made an orange slice garland when the Christmas season begins and each year I’ve had the intention of sharing and documenting. This year I’m finally getting around to it. It’s an easy way to add a natural, festive, touch to your home for the season.

An easy way to add a natural, festive, touch.

All you need is some oranges and some type of twine. This year I added some natural beads to mine. I’ve also seen some people add cranberries and I like that look too!

To Make:

  • Slice up a bunch of oranges (depends how long you want your garland). I think I did five for mine and I had some leftover. Make sure you slice them pretty thin, about 1/4 inch pieces. If they’re too thick they won’t dry well.

  • Once you have them sliced up, pat them as dry as you can with a towel (or paper towel).

  • Line up on cookie sheets with parchment paper and put in the oven at 200 degrees. Bake for approx 2 - 4 hrs. It will all depend on how thick/thin your orange slices are.

  • Check on them often to assure they aren’t burning!! Flip about every hour.

  • Once removed from the oven, transfer to wire racks for continued drying. I suggest leaving them for at least 24hrs - I left mine for longer (until I was ready to string a few days later).

  • When you’re ready string twine through. I poke two holes across from each other closer to the top so that they will lay flat (or close to it) when on the twine. Space however you desire and add in beads, berries, or whatever else, as you wish!

Once strung, add to your tree or anywhere around your home! I added mine above my kitchen sink with some cute lights this year. I love the simplicity, yet cozy, festive touch it adds to our Christmas decor!

If you have any leftover orange slices they make great little ornaments for the tree! You can also add them to packages as a nice little embellishment and they also look really cute on wreaths!
